About

The person behind the firm.

Jonathan R. Larkin founded J.R. Larkin & Co. on a single premise — that the most consequential decisions a person makes deserve more than transactional advice. They deserve a trusted advisor who holds the full picture, asks the harder questions, and stays with the client through the complexity that follows.

His practice is built around the clients who have built something real and are now deciding what comes next. Not what is possible — what is actually worth doing. That distinction is the foundation of every engagement.

Professional Background
Jonathan R. Larkin

Mr. Larkin founded J.R. Larkin & Co. to bring a standard of counsel earned across decades of consequential work — in consulting, government, and military service — to the individuals, families, and organizations navigating the decisions that define what comes next. He holds a Master of Global Management from the Thunderbird School of Global Management — one of the world's foremost institutions for international business and cross-cultural leadership.

At Deloitte's Risk & Financial Advisory, Mr. Larkin was responsible for strategic compliance oversight on a $38 billion U.S. foreign aid program — coordinating a globally distributed team across multiple countries and managing accountability to government and multilateral institutions under real consequence.

In the public sector, Mr. Larkin served as an elected member of the Arizona State Legislature — leading trade and partnership delegations and working at the intersection of policy, commerce, and cross-jurisdictional governance.

He served as a United States Marine — three deployments across the Indo-Pacific, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

Military Service

Jonathan R. Larkin served as a Non-Commissioned Officer in the United States Marine Corps — MOS 3051, Inventory Control Specialist — embarked aboard USS Essex, flagship of the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit. The 31st MEU is the only permanently forward-deployed MEU in the world and the Marine Corps' premier crisis-response force in the Indo-Pacific.

Aboard Essex, he coordinated aerial supply operations across the Pacific — ensuring tactical vehicle readiness, weapons systems accountability, parts inventory, and six classes of supply were in place for approximately 2,000 Marines and sailors before they reached the ground.

A scheduled 30-day training rotation in Kuwait became a nine-month deployment — five of those months in combat. During Operation Phantom Fury in Fallujah, the heaviest urban combat U.S. forces had engaged since Huế City, he helped establish the unit's first major supply warehouse — built on open desert where every break in the supply chain cost lives — sustaining over 13,000 Marines across six classes of supply in one of the most dangerous environments on earth. For his service during the operation, he was awarded the Combat Action Ribbon.

Between deployments, Essex returned him to the Pacific — this time to the Philippines, where he trained alongside Philippine Marines and supported humanitarian operations across local communities. A different kind of mission, held to the same standard of execution.

At Al Asad Airbase, he deployed with Marine Air Control Squadron 1, managing aerial surveillance and airspace over one of the most active combat airbases in Iraq. As the mission expanded, he supported 543 combat patrols across 65,871 miles — maintaining 97% mission readiness across 17 tactical vehicles, 34 secure communications systems, and 112 weapons systems.

The discipline, composure, and judgment forged across those years — coordinating logistics from a warship in the Pacific, building supply infrastructure under fire in Fallujah, sustaining readiness at Al Asad — inform every client engagement today. Every consequential recommendation. Every moment when the right answer is harder to give than the easy one.

That is the standard J.R. Larkin & Co. brings to every engagement.
